Arnotts has been a Dublin landmark department store since 1843, but there’s nothing old fashioned about their approach to baby facilities.
They provide a lovely area for breastfeeding which is set back from the women’s clothing floor, so you have privacy, but you also don’t feel like you are being hidden in a separate room as if it’s something shameful.
It is kitted out with comfy rocking chairs, a dyson fan and a water cooler, so all your comforts are taken care of. It is also decorated with rugs, pictures and flowers to give it a homely feel.
Next to this dedicated area is a disabled toilet with baby changing table, and on the day of visiting it was clean, spacious, bright and all good.
These facilities are next to the café. At lunchtime it can get very busy, and the self service counter can be hard to navigate on your own with a pram, but it’s a great spot for a coffee at quieter times.
Whenever I’m in Dublin 1 I tend to plan my day so I can pop into Arnotts for feeds, and invariably I end up browsing and/or buying something from the other departments – I love the makeup and homewares sections (just don’t tell my husband we are meant to be saving!). It shows that by providing good facilities it is good for customers and good for business, so a lot of shops could learn from Arnotts example.
